2010 Special Olympics European Games

The Special Olympics European Games unite the region in celebration of the true power of sport and the belief that sport can help build a world full of joy, respect and acceptance; a world without false preconceptions, bias or prejudice.

The 5th Special Olympics European Games will take place in Warsaw, Poland from September 18th to September 24th, 2010. Click here to download the official brochure.

Unity Through Sport
Delegations from 58 countries in Europe/Eurasia will gather in Warsaw, Poland for the 2010 Special Olympics European Summer Games taking place from September 18 -24.

More than 1,600 Special Olympics athletes and 600 coaches are expected to attend. The event will also include a host town program, a policy forum, family forum, youth summit, a torch run through Europe/Eurasia and much more.

The European Games offer a stage to showcase the Special Olympics movement in Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia and to celebrate the abilities and accomplishments of people with intellectual disabilities.

Pageantry and tradition are very important. A Torch Run will take place ahead of the Games carrying the flame of hope across Italy, Portugal, Spain, Great Britain, and Poland, before arriving in Warsaw.  The run gives communities across Europe the opportunity to support athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Creating a Legacy
The 2010 Special Olympics European Games will also benefit from the support of thousands of volunteers and alliance with key corporate and media partners committed to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion, and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities through sport.
